THE idea that history might be dropped from school timetables (Mail) came as a tremendous disappointment to me.
My great-grandmother was a suffragette 100 years ago and was imprisoned five times in her fight for the vote. A shoe machinist by trade, and a vehement socialist, Alice Hawkins campaigned with women of all social back grounds and political persuasions for the right to be treated equally.

A website is currently under construction as a learning aid to students, young and old. My mother, who is now 86, said her grandmother Alice told her: 'You must always use your vote; we suffered greatly for it'. Sadly, many young people today will never hear of Alice's
