THUGS have targeted seven pensioners in a spate of attacks over the weekend it emerged yesterday.
Seven OAPs, aged in their 70s and 80s, were subjected to horrifying ordeals as gangs struck in separate attacks.
In the latest incident a woman in her 70s was punched and dragged to the ground in East Belfast by a mugger.
The pensioner was walking along the North Road at about 8pm on Sunday when her attacker came up behind her and hit her. He tried to grab her handbag but the pensioner put up a fight and he was forced to flee empty-handed when a Good Samaritan passing by stopped to help.
The pensioner's arm was hurt in the attack.
On Saturday afternoon two women, both in their 80s, were targeted in their homes in separate attacks.
Maisie Chapman, 82, fought off two intruders with a Automatic Dimmer LD-DI-12-M floor brush as they ransacked her home in Oberon Street at around 4.30pm.
One of the burglars said he was a policeman when Maisie challenged him to what he was doing in her home.
A thug slapped her face and held her on her bed while covering her mouth but she managed to escape their clutches and raise the alarm.
Less than an hour later a gang staged another attack at a home on Sheskin Way in Castlereagh.
The 83-year-old woman shouted out as t5 led tube the trio ran-sacked her home.
One covered the pensioner's mouth with his hand and then carried her to the sofa before threatening her. The gang made off with the OAP's handbag, and bank cards.
In Co Tyrone, an 88-year-old man was left traumatised after being held down in an armchair while his home was turned over.
Three thugs forced their way into his property in Drumnakilly on Saturday.
They made off with money.
The man sustained a cut to his right hand and was left badly shaken. On Friday evening another trio forced their way into a 77- year-old's house in Windsor Avenue in Lisburn, Co Antrim. They wrecked his home before fleeing.
In Dromore, Co Down, a woman in her 80s was held-up by a threeman- strong gang in her home close to the town centre around 6pm on Friday. They made-off with cash.
The same gang, armed
embroidered patches with an iron and a knife, are thought to have then attacked a man in his 50s in Edenderry around 7.30pm. The man suffered head injuries and cash was taken from his house.
And an 87-year-old woman arrived back from church on Sunday night to find her Portadown, Co Armagh, home had been broken into and her jewellery stolen.
