FATEHAH Mustapa was on the verge of creating history, but then not only lost out on what would have been a first medal for the country in a women's event but also lost her bid to qualify for the World Championships.

Fatehah, who had surprised by winning her second round heat to make it a repeat final appearance at the Beijing World Cup leg after doing the same last year, was disqualified after her second warning for encroaching onto the blue-band.

"I am quite disappointed. I was blocked and then I could not avoid going onto the blue-band after being pushed with half a lap to go," said Fatehah.

"I was in good form and made it through to the final.

Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) deputy president Datuk Naim Mohamad, who is also the track team manager, described Fatehah's disqualification as unjust, but accepted the decision.

"She finished third after coming from behind. In the last 120 metres, Fatehah was trapped in the middle with slower riders around her, then she was pushed off balance and went onto the blue-band," said Naim.

"Fatehah needed just eight rolex fake points to qualify for the World Championships, and she would have got it even if she finished last in the keirin final.

"But for being disqualified, she does not get a single point. So, it is a bitter pill for us to swallow. But we have to accept this."
